Mexican Independence Day Celebrations Prompt Intermittent Street Closures in Chicago

Chicagoans Can Expect Traffic Delays and Road Closures on September 16th and 17th

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time

The city of Chicago is gearing up for the annual Mexican Independence Day celebrations, which will take place on Friday, September 16th, and Saturday, September 17th. The festivities will include a parade, live music, and traditional Mexican food and drinks. However, the celebrations will also prompt intermittent street closures in the Little Village neighborhood on both days.

On Friday, September 16th, the parade will begin at 12 pm at 26th Street and Albany Avenue and will proceed north on Albany to 18th Street. The parade route will be closed to traffic from 11 am to 3 pm. On Saturday, September 17th, the street festival will take place from 12 pm to 10 pm on 26th Street between Albany Avenue and Kostner Avenue. The street festival area will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 11 pm.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time when traveling in the Little Village neighborhood on September 16th and 17th. The Chicago Department of Transportation will have message boards posted in the area to help drivers navigate around the closures. Public transportation is also encouraged as an alternative to driving.

The Mexican Independence Day celebrations are a vibrant and colorful event that draws thousands of people to the Little Village neighborhood each year. The closures are necessary to ensure the safety of pedestrians and participants. The city of Chicago thanks residents and visitors for their cooperation.
