Chris Jordan backs Surrey to switch mindsets for Somerset Blast challenge
Surrey to face Somerset in Blast quarter-final after squeezing past Hampshire
Jordan stars with bat and ball as Surrey edge past Hampshire by five runs on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method
Chris Jordan helped steer Surrey into the quarter-finals of the Vitality Blast with an extraordinary all-round display against Hampshire at the Kia Oval on Wednesday night. The seamer took 3 for 22 and made a vital 25 not out as Surrey defended 169 for 7 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a rain-affected match.
Surrey will now face Somerset at the Kia Oval on Friday night, and Jordan is confident his side can overcome the challenge of facing the tournament favorites. "Somerset are a very good side, but we're playing well and we're confident we can beat anyone on our day," Jordan said.
"We've got some big players in our team and we know what it takes to win trophies. We're going to have to be at our best, but we're ready for the challenge."
Jordan's heroics against Hampshire helped Surrey secure their place in the last eight. The right-hander took two wickets in the first three balls of the Hampshire innings, and then returned to remove James Vince for 17. He also made a crucial contribution with the bat, hitting a six off the last ball of the innings to take Surrey's total to a competitive 169.
"It was a good all-round performance from us," Jordan said. "We didn't bat as well as we would have liked, but we showed great character to defend our total. "The wicket was a bit slow and it was tough to get the ball away, but we managed to find a way to win.
"We're delighted to be through to the quarter-finals and we're looking forward to the challenge of facing Somerset. They're a very good side, but we're confident we can beat them."
