Boeings Troubles Upend Aviation Power Balance

Boeing's Troubles Upend Aviation Power Balance

Airbus Gains Ground, Boeing Struggles

Breaking News Lead:

Boeing is facing a major setback as its 737 Max crisis continues to weigh on the company. This week, a disused emergency exit door blew off a brand-new 737 Max, highlighting theongoing problems with the aircraft. The incident comes at a time when Boeing is already struggling with a large backlog of orders and a diminishing market share, giving rival Airbus a major advantage.

The 737 Max crisis began in January when a software error caused two fatal crashes, leading to the grounding of the entire fleet worldwide. Boeing has been working to fix the issue, but the process has been slow and costly. The company has also been facing intense scrutiny from regulators and the public, damaging its reputation.

Meanwhile, Airbus has taken advantage of Boeing's troubles to increase its market share. In 2018, Airbus won more orders than Boeing for the first time in its history. This trend has continued in 2019, with Airbus securing a record number of orders at the Paris Air Show.

Boeing's current order backlog stands at 4834 aircraft, down 215 from a year ago. The company is also facing increasing competition from new entrants into the aviation market, such as China's COMAC. As Boeing struggles to recover from its current crisis, Airbus is well-positioned to capitalize on its rival's misfortunes.
